Introduction

ITG is proud to announce the successful completion of the Vertical Storage and Retrieval Installation and Safety Upgrade project for customer. ITG was commissioned to bring one (1) new Vertical Storage and Retrieval machine into customer's safety compliance, providing the requisite engineering design, materials, project management, and reporting.

Summary

Customer had purchased a vertical storage and retrieval machine that required alignment with customer’s safety standards. ITG successfully executed all engineering, project management, and reporting activities to make the manufacturer’s machine compliant.

Scope of Work

Engineering Solutions

1. Engineered PLd & Cat 3 based solutions to eliminate all electrical energy from the machine.

• Installed two (2) new E-stops and one (1) tongue switch per machine.
• Provided three (3) Safety Contactors per machine.
• Re-used existing safety reset push button.

• Re-configured existing Safety Logic Solver based on the new safety circuit configuration.
• Removed the auxiliary mode switch and provided a cover for it.

Verification and Validation

• Verified the safety design and functions with customer representatives present.
• Validated the system through SISTEMA based analysis, and supplementary testing, including a comprehensive test plan with fault injection creation.

Contractor Services

• Contracted electrical contractor for the Electrical installation.
• Contracted mechanical contractor and Integrated Systems for fire protection modifications.

Additional Services Delivered

Risk Assessment

• Identified hazards and evaluated risks, producing a comprehensive Risk Assessment and Reduction document.

Safety Functional Design

• Created a Safety Function Listing document that detailed each function, input, logic, and output devices.

Build and Quality Control

• Re-configured PLC programs as per project design documents.
• Developed a Site Acceptance Test (SAT) document for the safety system.

Documentation

• Revised electrical and/or instrumentation drawings to reflect construction changes.
• Compiled a Machine Safety Report in compliance with ISO13849, including all required documentation and signatures.

Project Management

• Managed project scope, schedule, and budget to ensure correct and timely completion.

Electrical Services by Electrical Contractor

• Performed a variety of electrical installation tasks, including the provision of Arc flash calculations and labels.

Mechanical Contractor

• Relocated two (2) existing sprinkler heads and ensured all work complied with NFPA 13 & 25.
